At our Vancouver office, team-building events have become a highly anticipated tradition. These gatherings are designed as surprise experiences—no hints, no previews—so teams cannot plan ahead. This element of surprise adds excitement and gives everyone something to look forward to. We also keep them short and sweet, lasting no more than an hour, to respect everyone’s time while still ensuring a meaningful impact.
What began as a simple initiative to boost employee engagement has evolved into a more intentional strategy to strengthen relationships, foster trust, and encourage collaboration across departments. These events provide a relaxed, informal setting for employees to connect beyond their usual roles, helping to build a strong sense of community and belonging within the office.
Since launching these events, we have observed a noticeable shift in how teams work together. Communication has improved, cross-functional teamwork has increased, and overall morale is on the rise. More than just fun moments, these experiences have contributed to a more unified, energized, and resilient workplace—one where people genuinely enjoy working together toward a shared mission.

We are impressed with the success of our recent company-wide team-building exercise at the Vancouver site!
To shake things up, we assigned teams through random selection, encouraging our employees to collaborate with colleagues they don’t typically work with day-to-day. Each team was then challenged to construct the highest standing tower in just 10 minutes.
This activity fostered:
Quick decision-making
Critical thinking
Effective communication
Strategic planning
It was inspiring to see how quickly our teams adapted, collaborated, and innovated to achieve their goals. This exercise not only built stronger connections but also reinforced the power of teamwork across our organization.
A big thank you to everyone who participated and made this event such a memorable experience!
Teamwork was on full display at Impact ES–Vancouver’s March Team Building Event, where employees were challenged to think creatively, communicate clearly, and work together under pressure. The activity? Stack six cups into a perfect pyramid—using only string, one rubber band, and zero hands.
What started as a simple challenge quickly turned into an exciting showdown. In a dramatic finish, two teams completed the task within just minutes of each other! The tie was settled in classic fashion—with a high-stakes round of rock-paper-scissors that crowned our final winners (pictured in the photo).
These team-building moments are more than just fun—they build trust, boost morale, and remind us that innovation and problem-solving thrive in a collaborative, supportive environment. Great job, Vancouver team!
Karen Smalls and Mark Hood, our dedicated Master Trainers from the Clearwater office, attended the IPC APEX Expo in Anaheim, CA, March 15–20. The weeklong conference proved to be one of the most positive and rewarding experiences yet.
One highlight was a class on ESD (electrostatic discharge) protection. “It’s easy to take certain topics for granted when they become part of your daily routine,” Karen said, “but revisiting the fundamentals really impacts how you work.”
From learning and networking to feeling genuinely valued in their roles, this year’s IPC APEX Expo struck the perfect balance for our Master Trainers.
At Impact ES–Grants Pass, the team participated in some spirited sports fan competition with Sports Day, where employees repped their favorite teams in full fan gear. Each participant was entered into a drawing for a complete tailgating kit, with congratulations going to Tamera Powell, lead of the Mechanical Line, for taking home the prize. Co-hosting the event was the always-enthusiastic DJ Bones—an Oregon State fan through and through!
And the talent doesn’t stop at work! Our very own Bob Dooly, Quality Manager by day and actor by night, wowed the community in his role as Mr. Brownlow in a local production of Oliver Twist. Several Impact teammates turned out to support Bob, making it another great moment of connection beyond the workplace.
Way to go, Grants Pass team—your energy, creativity, and teamwork truly set the tone!
