Client

An electrical engineering company seeking to improve efficiency in its field appraisal reporting process.

Project Scope

Develop a technology solution that enables field assessors and sales staff to input data directly into the company’s home system, eliminating delays and reducing total processing time to under one hour.

Challenge

The client’s original process relied on manual data entry and shipping physical documents via FedEx, resulting in turnaround times of several days. The new system had to work in field environments with unreliable wireless connectivity and still ensure secure, accurate data transfer to the home office system.

Solution

Impact ES–Rhode Island implemented a mobile solution based on a Windows 7 tablet computer. The tablet leveraged built-in support for voice and handwriting recognition and was paired with a Bluetooth printer and hands-free microphone for use in the field.

To address offline environments, the system used a local database on the tablet, which synchronized with the central database once connectivity was available. The solution included:

  • C# application development

  • SQL database design

  • Voice and handwriting input support

  • Programmatic VPN connection

  • Synchronization between local and central databases

By combining the right hardware and software technologies, Impact ES–Rhode Island enabled the client to complete and deliver field assessments in under an hour—dramatically improving operational efficiency.
