By John Lu, Application/Sales Engineer, Impact ES–Ventura

It's been quite a month for space. With the Artemis mission commanding headlines and four astronauts completing their journey around the moon, the universe has felt a little closer to home. In that spirit, we're excited to share a case study that hits close to the cosmos — one that's been in the making for years, literally.
Impact ES–Ventura designed and manufactured the precision fiber-optic assemblies that guided a U.S. spacecraft as it descended onto an asteroid in near-zero gravity, collected surface samples, and returned them safely to Earth. The technology at the heart of it? A custom LIDAR sensing system that had to work flawlessly — millions of miles from the nearest repair shop.
At Impact ES, our internship program isn't just good for students — it makes us a better company. By bringing emerging engineers into live projects and real customer work, we sharpen the skills of our senior team, strengthen a culture of mentorship, and build a pipeline of talent that grows with us.

As Dave Girard, Director of Electrical Engineering at Impact ES–Rhode Island, puts it: “Our engineers have to step back, explain their decisions, and defend their thinking — and that process makes everyone better. For our customers, that means a team that stays sharp, collaborative, and invested in doing the work right. We're proud to be building the next generation of engineers — and proud of what they're already contributing.”
Impact ES is hitting the road and heading to Detroit, Michigan for AUVSI Xponential, running May 11–14th, and we couldn’t be more excited!

AUVSI Xponential is one of the world’s premier events for autonomous and unmanned systems, making it the perfect stage for us to connect with innovators, engineers, and industry leaders who are pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.
Our team will be on the floor and ready to talk about what sets Impact ES apart — from our engineering expertise and unwavering commitment to quality, to the lasting relationships we build and the solutions we deliver every day.
This is more than a conference. It’s an opportunity to showcase the talent, dedication, and drive that define Impact ES. We’re not just attending — we’re out here representing every single member of this team, spreading the word, making meaningful connections, and doing what we do best: making an impact. Stay tuned for updates from the floor!
We'd also love to meet up if you'll be in attendance! Find us at Booth #33020, or send us an email at blake@impactelectronics.com to schedule a time.
