Scaling with Confidence: Strengthening the Path from Prototype to Production

By Dereck Moore, Vice President and General Manager, EMS Divisions

Moving from prototype to full-scale production requires more than capacity—it demands disciplined, repeatable processes. That’s why Impact ES is investing in Six Sigma certification across our engineering, production, and quality teams. As more OEMs look to scale complex programs within the United States, this initiative strengthens our ability to deliver higher first-pass yield, smoother NPI transitions, faster root-cause resolution, and predictable delivery performance.

By embedding structured, data-driven quality into our U.S.-based manufacturing operations, we are building a stronger foundation for customers who need to ramp with confidence—without sacrificing reliability, speed, or control.

Weathering the Storm—For Our Community and Our Customers

By Dave Girard, Director, Electrical Engineering – Cranston, RI

While most of our customers were talking about project schedules and deliverables, our Rhode Island team was hunkering down, preparing for a storm with snowfall as its primary deliverable.

On a Monday in late February, a historic winter storm dropped 37.9 inches of snow in our area, shattering the previous record of 28.6 inches set in 1978. With hurricane-force wind gusts, a statewide travel ban, and a state of emergency in effect, the region came to a standstill. For some, the streets weren’t plowed until midweek, power was out for days, and “cold storage” took on a whole new meaning—thanks to a few creatively snow-banked freezers.

But even as the snow piled up, so did the determination.

Those with power shifted to remote work to keep customer projects moving forward. Once it was safe to return, the first order of business at the office wasn’t design or coding work, it was shoveling. One of our Principal engineers took it upon themselves to carve a path through over three feet of snow just to get from the parking lot to the front door, exemplifying what it takes to make the path for others to follow, both literally and in a design.

It’s a great reminder that behind every line of code, every circuit on a PCB, and every successful product is a team that shows up—sometimes with a laptop at the kitchen table, sometimes with a snow shovel in hand.

Scroll down to check out a few scenes from the storm, including:

  • The record-breaking snowfall at our Rhode Island facility

  • The hand-shoveled “walkway project” to reopen the building

  • And one very resourceful outdoor freezer powered by Mother Nature

No matter the weather, the Impact ES team keeps projects moving forward.
